Position Summary
nation.university seeks an experienced, visionary College Sport Commissioner to serve as the organization’s commissioner and public face, with authority and responsibility commensurate with the President of the NCAA but solely for Olympic sports.
The Commissioner will oversee national competition structures, member institutions, governance frameworks, commercial strategy, athlete welfare, compliance standards, and international alignment—while driving long-term financial sustainability for Olympic sports across U.S. higher education.
This role combines the strategic scope of a conference commissioner, the institutional stewardship of an NCAA President, and the commercial leadership of a modern global sport enterprise.
Key Responsibilities
Strategic & Executive Leadership

Serve as commissioner of nation.university

Set and execute long-term strategy for national collegiate Olympic sports

Lead relationships with university presidents, athletic directors, governing boards, and external stakeholders

Represent nation.university before Congress, federal agencies, international federations, media, and the Olympic movement
Governance & Competition
-
Design and oversee national, regional, and championship competition frameworks

Establish governance policies aligned with institutional autonomy, athlete welfare, and academic integrity

Chair or appoint national sport councils and advisory committees
-
Oversee rules standardization, eligibility frameworks, and transfer mechanisms (where applicable)
Commercial & Revenue Strategy

Lead national media, sponsorship, licensing, and brand partnerships

Implement revenue-sharing models that return meaningful distributions to member institutions

Oversee NIL-adjacent frameworks compatible with institutional compliance
-
Drive long-term asset creation across IP, data, and brand platforms
Athlete & Institutional Impact

Champion athlete development, education, health, and post-sport pathways

Protect and expand Olympic sport participation nationally

Align collegiate sport outcomes with Team USA and international performance pipelines

Ensure equitable access, gender equity, and broad-based sport participation
Operational Oversight

Build and manage an executive leadership team (sport, legal, finance, media, compliance)

Oversee budgets, multi-year financial planning, and risk management

Maintain transparency, accountability, and institutional trust
Qualifications
Required
-
15+ years of senior leadership in collegiate athletics, professional sport leagues, governing bodies, or large-scale sport enterprises

Proven experience managing multi-institution, multi-sport ecosystems

Deep understanding of NCAA like governance, conference structures, and Olympic sport economics

Demonstrated success in media rights, commercial partnerships, or enterprise-level revenue models

Exceptional executive presence and credibility with university presidents and boards
Preferred

Former deputy commissioner, Power Four Atheltic Director, or comparable role

Experience interfacing with federal policy, Title IX, and international sport bodies

Advanced degree (JD, MBA, or equivalent)

Global sport perspective with Olympic or international federation exposure
Compensation & Benefits
Compensation is intentionally benchmarked to NCAA President–level responsibility and Power Four Conference commissioner standards.
Target Total Annual Compensation
$4.5M – $7.5M+, structured as:

Base Salary: $2.5M – $4.0M

Performance Incentive: $1.0M – $2.5M (revenue growth, institutional participation, sport retention metrics)

Long-Term Incentive / Equity-Equivalent: $1.0M+ (brand value growth, multi-year milestones)
